10 things that you should know before visiting Culebra Island

  In Puerto Rico, I visited culebra island. This visit was life changing for me as I experienced the magic of flamenco beach. The beautiful views inspired me to acquire a passport and each year travel to a new place in the world. Little did I know that months later that beach would be ranked as one of the top most beautiful beaches in the world. And, the beginning of my traveling journeys.

When planning a trip to Culebra Island in Puerto Rico, There are several important things you should know to make the most of your visit.

Here are 10 essential tips to keep in mind before you embark on your island adventure:

 

     

     

    1. Transportation: To reach Culebra, you can take a short flight or ferry from the main island of Puerto Rico. It’s advisable to book your transportation in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. The island is small but not everything is walking distance. Keep in mind the weather conditions if walking is your preference.  It is recommended to rent a vehicle or catch a taxi if available.
    2.  Reservations: Culebra is known for its pristine beaches and limited accommodation options. Make sure to secure your accommodations well in advance to avoid any disappointment.
    3. Beach Essentials: Pack the essentials for a day at the beach, including sunscreen, towels, hats, and comfortable footwear for walking on sandy shores. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water and snacks, as amenities may be limited in some areas. 
    4.  Snorkeling and Diving: Culebra is home to some incredible coral reefs and marine life. If you plan on snorkeling or diving, consider bringing your own gear, although rental options are available on the island as well.
    5. Mosquitoes: Like many tropical destinations, Culebra has its fair share of mosquitoes. Be sure to pack insect repellent to protect yourself from these pesky creatures, especially during dawn and dusk.
    6.  Cash: While there are ATMs available, it’s always a good idea to carry some cash with you. Some small establishments may only accept cash payments. 
    7. Nature Reserves: Culebra is known for its pristine natural reserves, such as Flamenco Beach and Carlos Rosario Beach. Respect these protected areas by following all rules and regulations to help preserve the beauty of the island for generations to come.
    8. Island life: Keep in mind that some places may be open and others may not  when it comes to restaurant and grocery stores. 
    9. Preferred language: Spanish is the popular language but English is spoken too. 
    10. Currency: US dollars and all popular cards are accepted.
